No Tire Basura

5. No Tire Basura
Translation: Don't throw garbage
Interpretation(s): The Leave No Trace element here is obvious; we are to be responsible for our own garbage and dispose of it properly. I also read this one as don't talk trash, because gossip and criticism are thrown around as casually as garbage. In a recent expectations session, I encouraged students to be responsible for the interpersonal 'basura' they create. Much as we are learning to reengineer our waste in valuable commodities (i.e. pvc into fleece) we must learn to re-engineer our gut reaction trash talk and turn into productive and valuable feedback. In the words of San Nicolas Don Chico Murillo "Todo La Basura es Comida”: all waste is food. In his case its organic compost, on an expedition the "food," is for thought.

  1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

  3. 1) You’ll Make Better Decisions
Being a student agent for change isn’t always easy. There are times of utter exhilaration and also moments of deep despair and disappointment.

The key to keep yourself as peaceful as possible during the tough times is to be impeccable with your word. You make much better decisions when you’re feeling peaceful than when you’re completely stressed out.

    2) Your "Business" Will Grow
When you are impeccable with your word you build your integrity and reputation. And remember, people do business with people they know, like, and trust.
How much trust do you give to someone who gossips about others? Think about this quote: “Whoever gossips to you will gossip about you.” Spanish Proverb

    3) You’ll Be Happier
Now who doesn’t want to be happier? It seems obvious but being kind with your thoughts and words brings more joy than being unkind. And you know your happiness as a person has a direct reflection on the success of your business.

Make the decision to be impeccable with your word for yourself, and for your business. Only good can come from it.
